The Materials Engineer at Sulzer Pumps US Inc. is responsible for initiating, developing, and qualifying new repair and manufacturing processes and materials. This role involves creating and maintaining material process standards, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring compliance with industry standards in heat treatment processes. The engineer will also provide support in the Materials Laboratory as needed.

  • Initiate, develop, and qualify new repair and manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Create and maintain material process standards and specifications, including brazing, welding, and heat treatment procedures.
  • Troubleshoot material and process-related production issues.
  • Maintain heat treat furnaces and document heat treat charts, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide support in the Materials Laboratory when needed.
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field of study including Chemistry, Material Science, Mechanics, Thermodynamics/Heat Transfer, and Fluids.
  • 3+ years of experience with turbomachinery, rotating/stationary equipment, or similar machinery manufacturing and/or repair.
  • Familiarity with materials testing, metal joining processes, and heat treatment procedures.
  • Knowledge and applicable experience in the area of superalloys is a plus.
  • Proficient user of office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and other software related to laboratory and process equipment.
  • Excellent hands-on and problem-solving skills, attention to detail.
