About The Position

The Materials Engineer Intern for Server Design at Lenovo will support the engineering team in Morrisville, NC, during the Summer of 2025. This internship focuses on materials engineering related to server development, manufacturing, and field support, with an emphasis on innovative cooling systems and materials analysis.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
  • Solid background in chemistry and polymers through coursework, undergraduate research, or prior internship experience.
  • Experience with instruments such as optical microscopes, SEMs, and infrared spectroscopy is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a lab environment onsite at the Morrisville, NC location.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of direct water cooling (DWC) and two-phase cooling systems.
  • Utilize analytical equipment for materials analysis and testing, including optical microscopes, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and mechanical testing (Instron).
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines such as power engineering, electromagnetic compatibility engineering, and interconnect engineering to provide materials-related support.
  • Interact with suppliers to ensure quality and reliability standards are met.
  • Prepare analytical reports and effectively communicate results to internal stakeholders and external customers.
