About The Position

The Associate Material Engineer analyzes, researches, and designs materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in energetic devices and aircraft escape systems. The associate performs laboratory material analyses and characterization that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, service life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Applicants must be qualified to obtain BATF clearance and to work with ITAR commodities.
  • Requires understanding of the fundamentals of material engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Design of Experiments or related scientific methods.
  • Experience with adhesives, epoxies, rubbers, etc. and their aging behaviors and associated failure modes.
  • Experience with metallography and corrosion mechanisms, prevention and associated failure modes.
  • Experience with configuration management.
  • Experience with engineering drawings and drafting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in systems and subsystems.
  • Performs material analyses that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Develop and maintain drawing requirements for materials.
  • Cooperate with the development teams to assure that the correct materials are selected for new products.
  • Document the reasons for material selections and the factors that were considered.
  • Participate in Process Safety Management as required.
  • Must comply with all safety policies involved in working with rockets, pyrotechnic devices and linear explosive devices.
  • Must comply with all the quality policies involved in working with aircraft escape systems.
