The Materials Development and Execution Associate at Tommy Bahama plays a crucial role in supporting the Materials Development and Execution team. This position is primarily focused on developing new fabrics and trims that align with the Category Sourcing strategy. The associate will also be involved in print development and execution for Tommy Bahama's signature prints, fabric approvals, and managing sample yardage orders and tracking. This role requires a blend of creativity and analytical skills to ensure that the materials meet the company's high standards and align with business strategies. In this position, the associate will negotiate initial costs, lead times, and minimum order quantities (MOQ) for new developments. They will determine the necessary fabric level SGS testing, request and track results throughout the development process, and reserve initial yardage fabric for the sourcing team to facilitate sample making. The associate will manage the execution and timing of salesmen yardage and work directly with mills to gather fabric detail sheets, ensuring data integrity and accuracy in the Flex PLM system. Additionally, the associate will be responsible for requesting, tracking, and managing color lab dips, yarn dips, strike-offs, and handlooms as per design requests. They will maintain a sample yardage print and pattern tracking chart throughout the development season and act as a primary point of contact with vendors and suppliers. Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with these stakeholders is essential, as is managing mill and vendor appointments based on seasonal development needs. The associate will also attend cross-functional and milestone meetings as required and submit new fabric, trim, and print development packages directly to mills and suppliers. Overall, this role is vital in ensuring that development plans are aligned with the business strategy and that all developments are tracked effectively to keep Design, Sourcing, and Production counterparts informed of approvals and costing.
