Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI on a full-time basis. The Role The Materials Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring reliable material flow and accurate inventory to support daily production operations. This role supports GM Defense Advanced Build, focused on low‑volume, high‑precision build activities. The position requires a high degree of autonomy and accountability, with end‑to-end ownership of the materials room, inventory controls, and overall material readiness. Partnering closely with Engineering and Manufacturing teams, the Materials Coordinator supports build schedules, proactively resolves material issues, and maintains accurate, compliant documentation and system records.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in materials management and inventory control
  • Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by export regulations) or eligible to obtain required export authorizations; may require ability to obtain DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
  • Ability to work effectively within a small team environment and lead day‑to‑day activities in the materials area
  • Strong multitasking capability supporting Engineering, Manufacturing, suppliers, and customer requirements
  • Willing to be trained and receive GM certification to drive a forklift
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage information from multiple sources

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field
  • Proven track record of reducing material shortages, improving accuracy, or streamlining processes
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and fabricated parts, including the ability to identify components, understand part families, and interpret supplier specifications
  • Experience supporting prototypes, pilot build, or low‑volume production where parts availability, engineering changes, and rapid iteration are common
  • Experience with SAP

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate stock location and allocation history within the inventory system.
  • Lead and perform routine cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
  • Record all received items and stock movements in the inventory management system and receipting them in SAP.
  • Review purchase orders and packing slips for accuracy.
  • Verify, file, and maintain quality documentation in accordance with GM internal standards and customer requirements.
  • Pick, stage, and dispatch materials to support production build schedules.
  • Run BOM‑based reports to generate build‑readiness assessments.
  • Prepare and ship outgoing parts and materials according to GM policy and customer guidelines.
  • Label, store, and organize materials according to program specifications.
  • Coordinate with drivers and logistics teams to ensure timely inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Operate warehouse equipment safely, including forklifts and pallet jacks, and regularly lift 50 lbs or more as part of daily material‑handling duties.
  • Work in a shop/warehouse environment. Role may also require spending time outdoors when accessing external storage pods and moving materials between building locations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe materials room in alignment with GM 5S standards.
