About The Position

The Materials Coordinator works to expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments at KPSM according to production schedule. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work, inventory levels, costs, and production problems.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in production control, fabrication support, or shop supervision in a custom manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with job-shop or sheet metal operations (laser, brake, weld, hardware, paint, assembly) strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., JobBOSS2, Epicor); ability to edit routings and release travelers.
  • Working knowledge of nesting, material optimization, and WIP staging techniques.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI or visual job tracking systems is a plus.
  • Organized, proactive, and calm under pressure.
  • Communicative and collaborative—able to maintain alignment across departments and shifts.
  • Analytical thinker with a strong sense of ownership and pride in operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Control Flow of Parts through Fabrication/Paint
  • Stage and prioritize work orders on the floor, maintaining alignment with shift plans and operator assignments.
  • Communicate delays, material shortages, or equipment issues to the Scheduler and relevant leads to drive resolution.
  • Collaborate with our paint vendors to assure parts are delivered and painted according to our schedule.
  • Routing, Nesting & Shop Support
  • Monitor WIP movement and identify parts that need re-routing, manual intervention, or corrective action.
  • Support downstream coordination between fabrication and kitting/assembly, ensuring timely part availability.
  • Material & Inventory Control
  • Track usage and movement of raw materials and WIP; initiate material transfers, adjustments, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Partner with Supply Chain to ensure reorder points are met for consumables, hardware, and core materials.
  • Maintain a clear and organized material labeling and staging system for traceability and easy access.
  • Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
  • Support NCR investigations, RMA returns, and quality alerts, collaborating with MEs and QC staff.
  • Reinforce adherence to standard work, routings, and safety procedures on the floor.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives—especially around scheduling accuracy, kitting reliability, and WIP flow.
  • Cross-Team Communication
  • Serve as a vital link between shop floor personnel and the Scheduler—ensuring timely information exchange and plan alignment.
  • Attend daily production stand-ups and planning meetings to communicate job status, readiness gaps, and success stories.
  • Mentor junior coordinators or material handlers as needed, reinforcing best practices and continuous improvement.
