About The Position

The Materials Assistant supports the Materials Manager by coordinating procurement, receiving, verification, storage, and distribution of supplies and equipment. This role ensures efficient operations, compliance with safety standards, and contributes to the Surgery Center's goals.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in outpatient surgery or the operating room
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and inventory management systems
  • Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and basic mechanical skills for equipment handling

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in the Operating Room is beneficial but not required
  • RN license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inventory levels in storerooms and supply carts, creating purchase orders as needed
  • Unpack, verify, and store incoming supplies and equipment, resolving discrepancies in collaboration with the Materials Manager
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in storage areas to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Prepare reorder lists and participate in inventory counts, updating records as needed
  • Track borrowing and lending of supplies or equipment between departments or facilities
  • Input and manage data in the inventory management system
  • Ensure shipments are documented, complete, and undamaged
  • Maintain supply and equipment logs, assisting with shipping items using appropriate carriers
  • Communicate with vendors regarding order status, discrepancies, backorders, or product issues
  • Track preventive maintenance and documentation for equipment in collaboration with Biomedical Engineering
  • Handle confidential information in accordance with policies and regulations
  • Assist with equipment assembly, disassembly, and preventive maintenance under supervision
  • Monitor compliance with infection control protocols and safety standards
  • Support clinical needs by managing surgical instrumentation and supplies
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and waste in materials handling
  • Assist with performance improvement initiatives assigned by the Materials Manager or Administrator
