Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Materials and Research Engineering Associate (MREA) Specialist performs difficult and complex material testing and analysis on soils, aggregates, asphalt and concrete samples to meet Caltrans specifications and contract requirements. May act as a lead worker over technicians and other less experienced Material and Research Engineering Associates and may also act as Radiation Safety Officer or Assistant Radiation Safety Officer for the Radiation Safety Program. The incumbent is required to possess and maintain all required certificates of various Test Methods and certifications. The incumbent attends pre-construction meetings, performs equipment calibration, assists the Senior Transportation Engineer with inventory control. The incumbent must be capable of moving up to 75 pounds. Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license when operating State vehicles. Night and weekend work may be required depending on the project requirements.
