About The Position

The Electrical Materials & Process Engineer - Failure Analysis at Boeing plays a crucial role in supporting the Boeing Research & Technology team by analyzing electronic assemblies for product validation and failure analysis. This position is based in El Segundo, CA, where the team designs and builds advanced space and communication systems. The engineer will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory, focusing on materials science and electrical engineering to investigate failures in electronic parts and contribute to the development of new technologies and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience analyzing technical data and providing clear written and verbal presentation of the results.
  • Experience with semiconductor device physics.
  • Experience in component engineering, failure analysis, reliability engineering, Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA) testing or electronic Materials & Processes (M&P).

  • 3+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's or Doctorate in electrical engineering, materials engineering or physics.
  • Experience with semiconductor technology and wafer/die fabrication and multilayer deprocessing.
  • Experience performing electronic failure investigations and fault isolation.
  • Experience with thermal or photo emission, OBIRCH/XIVA, EBIC, Nanoprober, CSAM or similar.
  • Experience with the implementation of new laboratory equipment and developing training materials or providing hands-on training to others.
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary team to identify and implement solutions for complex testing and characterization efforts.
  • Technical report writing and presentation experience.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products.
  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes.
  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
  • Promotes standardization across business activities.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs.
  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements.
  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate.
  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.
  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes.
  • Implements corrective and preventive actions.
  • Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements.
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into materials and processes, research, design and qualification, work procedures and labs.
