BASF/Chemetall, is the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, and a leading supplier of applied surface treatments worldwide. At BASF/Chemetall, we develop and manufacture tailor-made technology and system solutions for applied surface technology. The focus of our worldwide activities is on the development and implementation of customized technology and system solutions for surface treatment. We are looking for a Material Testing Specialist, Aerospace to join our Product and Application Development Team in Jackson, MI. The Material Testing Specialist will perform non-destructive testing (NDT) methods with a high degree of accuracy, proficiency and use good laboratory standard practices in support of both batch manufacturing and technical support. This individual is responsible for the testing and troubleshooting, when necessary, of production batches in the support of manufacturing of aerospace products and be responsible for preparing and planning projects while meeting standard testing specifications in technical support of the organization. Other responsibilities include maintaining a clean/ organized work environment, laboratory equipment validation, monitoring supplies, Gage R&R studies, the upkeep of calibration records and responding to customer complaints and quality concerns as required.During your shift as a Material Testing Specialist, Aerospace (ECT-Chemetall), you will Complete all work with a commitment & focus on following all aspects of the guiding principles of quality standards and BASF Responsible Care. The competitive pay range for this role is $25.00-$28.00 per hour. Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associates degree is required; Bachelor’s degree in chemistry (or related field) is preferred.
  • 0-3 years of experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Experience in wet chemistry and analytical methodology (e.g., colorimetric or potentiometric titration methodology, specific gravity, volumetric/ gravimetric analysis, pH).
  • Awareness of Analytical Instrumentation principles and operation (e.g., spectroscopy, etc.).
  • Familiarity of Quality Standards (e.g., ISO 17025/ ISO 9001/ AS9100) and working knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASTM, AMS, ISO, etc.) preferred.
  • Knowledge of acids & bases, oils, distillates, and solvents; as well as an awareness of product usage and applications (Penetrants, Developers, Emulsifiers, Cleaners, etc.).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and industry software (e.g., SAP, Lab Coach, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrate the consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment and knowledge of safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and sign all required documentation.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and workspace.
  • Investigate product quality concerns (root cause analysis).
  • Perform required NDT testing of manufactured goods according to approved test methods, procedures and instructions.
  • Cross-train across NDT Lab functions.
  • Communicate project information with relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain lab calibration, validation, verification records and logs. Assist with method validations (Gage R&R) and measurement uncertainty as required.
  • Support continuous improvement and accreditation activities.
  • Perform other duties as required to support lab operations.
