About The Position

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of a Supervisor-Inventory Control or designee, receives, stores, maintains, issues, delivers, and picks up materials and supplies. Enters material transactions into various computer systems and monitors systems to ensure accurate recordkeeping. Processes transformers returned from the system for reuse, repair, or disposal. Controls the tool room at the power station. Maintains fuel dispensing and underground fuel tank monitoring systems.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of one year recent material handling experience is required. The most relevant experience must include the hands-on utilization of a fully integrated materials management computer system, in addition to performing warehouse operational functions as the primary job tasks. Relevant work performed must include the use of manual and mechanized material handling equipment, physical inventory counts, shipping and receiving freight, and pulling and filling orders.
  • Must have a valid Missouri CDL, Class A including air brakes, or: a. The ability to obtain a Missouri Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) within six weeks of employment and b. The ability to obtain a CDL, Class A including air brakes within six months of employment. This requires approximately 15 hours (total) classroom training and completion of behind-the-wheel training (hours to be determined) as required by City Utilities.
  • Ability to: Maintain proficiency in use of electronic inventory management systems via computers, tablets, touchscreens, and manual/mechanized materials management warehousing activities.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with various groups of people while providing excellent customer service.
  • Operate manual and motorized material handling equipment.
  • Make mature decisions and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Assume responsibilities for development of knowledge and skills to advance into progressively responsible positions.
  • Mechanically inclined and able to understand operating functions of materials stored and equipment operated.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, and/or maintain alpha numeric information in written or electronic form.
  • Demonstrate basic math skills, as well as the ability to transcribe alpha-numeric information.
  • Effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems.
  • Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies.
  • Must have full body mobility.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Requires walking, bending over, reaching, stooping, twisting, kneeling, crouching, climbing into and onto equipment, and working on uneven surfaces.
  • Requires use of, and strength, in both upper and lower body to assist, stabilize, and push or pull.
  • Must have adequate upper and lower body strength to safely perform physical tasks such as loading and moving pallets, drums, and other items pertinent to utility operations.
  • Must be able to repetitively lift 50 pounds, occasionally move 80 pounds unassisted, and heavier weights using team lifting and mechanical devices.
  • Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.
  • Required to wear uniform clothing provided by City Utilities, including flame retardant/arc rated clothing.
  • Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.

Nice To Haves

  • College level courses in a position relevant field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains records and reports of all material transactions to ensure accurate and up-to-date inventory records, using both manual and computer systems.
  • Receives and inspects incoming materials and supplies to ensure quantities and specifications conform to purchase order requirements. Records and reports shipment discrepancies (e.g. shortages, damages, or over shipments).
  • Utilizes email and phone system effectively as primary forms of communication.
  • Stores and maintains the inventory of materials and supplies in a neat and orderly condition, and performs necessary maintenance tasks to keep stock, equipment, and facilities in optimum working condition.
  • Prepares, issues, loads and unloads materials and supplies.
  • Picks up and delivers materials and supplies to utility locations, designated project staging areas, and job sites as required.
  • Performs periodic physical inventories and cycle counts.
  • Cleans up on-site spills of hazardous and non-hazardous transformer oil in accordance with company policies and federal, state, and local governmental regulations. Acts as a secondary clean-up option to contracted services for off-site spills of the same hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Processes transformers returned from the system for reuse, repair, or disposal. Work includes, but is not limited to, sampling, pumping and preparing for shipment dielectric oil; moving processed equipment and drained units to appropriate storage areas; collection and processing for disposal of solid materials that are contaminated with oil; maintaining equipment return area in a clean and orderly condition; and recordkeeping (computerized and manual) associated with all phases of this work. All work must be done in strict compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local governmental regulations.
  • Packs, loads, and prepares for shipment various materials, including hazardous materials, in accordance with federal, state, and local governmental regulations.
  • Maintains fuel dispensing equipment and computerized fuel accounting systems. Maintains underground tank monitoring systems in accordance with state regulations and insurance requirements.
  • Maintains and controls the power stations tool room.
  • Performs responsibilities including operation of all equipment in accordance with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
