About The Position

The Material Service Techinician performs routine manual and clerical work in ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, and issuing supplies to assigned patient/non-patient care centers. Work will involve supplies replenishment in patient/non-patient care areas, and the transportation of supplies (stock and non-stock) and equipment throughout the Medical Center. Work will also require rotating among shifts, to weekends, and holidays as scheduled by the supervisor. Duties typically combine warehousing manual labor tasks, related clerical duties, using basic computer skills and general knowledge of Medical/Surgical supplies and equipment. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work regularly for compliance with standards and regulations and ability to provide services to assigned patient/non-patient care centers effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Inventories, orders and transports patient care supplies/equipment/trays.
  • Receives, labels, stores and issues chargeable and non-chargeable patient care materials/supplies to meet nursing needs.
  • Conducts cycle counts and periodic inventory, ordering appropriately from the following sources: CSR, Storeroom, Pharmacy, print shop and vendors.
  • Maintains inventories to PAR levels; assists with establishing, reviewing and revising PAR levels.
  • Keeps supplies in order at all times, rotates supplies per established procedure, removes and disposes of outdated supplies, transports discharge supplies as assigned.
  • Labels products, checks items for package integrity before dispensing, informing supervisor of defective items, dispenses Inpatient/Outpatient (IP/OP) products.
  • Cleans bins, shelves, storage areas.
  • Assists in moving supplies to areas as directed rearranges stock in bulk storage as assigned.
  • Fills requisitions, delivers STAT, emergency and routine supplies as required from patient care centers, out-patient areas and satellites. Supplies including, but not limited to emergency items, portable equipment, reusable trays Med/Surg supplies.
  • Stores patients personal belongings if resident expires or is hospitalized if applicable Accurately maintains, tallies, and reports to supervisor daily statistics of tasks performed.
  • Reports items of inactive inventory to supervisor.
  • Communicates with immediate supervisor, nursing and medical personnel regarding the availability of supplies.
  • Processes all dietary bills, nursing lab and nursing pool bills from vendors insuring that charges are in accord with the award price.
  • Maintains supply of wheelchairs for patients' use if applicable.
  • Performs basic computer functions such as inquiries or data entry.
  • Assists in other areas of the materials Management Department as required to complete special projects and ensure appropriate service to customers.
