About The Position

Material/Process Inspector I and II: Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Material/Process Inspector III: Performs complex material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Requirements

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Material/Process Inspector I: No experience required
Material/Process Inspector II: 1 YEAR Laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related work
Material/Process Inspector III: 2 YEARS laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related work
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Material Process Inspector I must obtain 2 of the following certifications within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
Material Process Inspector II must have 1 of the following certifications at the time of hire and obtain 2 additional certifications within twelve (12) months of hire.
Material Process Inspector III must have 2 of the following certifications at the time of hire and obtain 2 additional certifications within twelve (12) months of hire.

Conducting laboratory tests

Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions.
This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Responsibilities

Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
Maintains and calibrates equipment.
Performs tests and inspection duties.
Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
Coordinates core drill or auger rig operations.
Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
Maintains a diary of inspection or test details
Maintains inventory of test supplies.
Observes tests and inspections and reviews reports from other inspectors; performs quality assurance for tests and inspections.
