About The Position

The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the availability of materials to support production schedules, customer commitments, and inventory optimization. This role manages material requirements, monitors supply flow, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to minimize shortages and excess while supporting on-time delivery performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years of experience in supply chain, materials, or production planning; or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or production support environment is required.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (Infor LN, Oracle, or equivalent) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to analyze demand data, forecasts, and material reports to drive planning decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving material shortages.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with internal teams, suppliers, and program stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electronic components, high-reliability (hi-rel) parts, and associated supply chain processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate material requirements planning (MRP) to align with production schedules and customer demand.
  • Monitor and manage material flow through the supply chain, ensuring timely availability for manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers, Operations, Purchasing, Quality, Receiving, and Stockroom to resolve material issues and support schedule attainment.
  • Review bills of material (BOMs) for structure, accuracy, and planning parameters; recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Track shortages and excess materials, partnering with Purchasing to expedite orders or mitigate risks.
  • Monitor supplier delivery dates and work with the procurement team to resolve delays.
  • Support new contracts and projects by managing material readiness and planning activities.
  • Provide regular reporting on material status, shortages, and risks to internal stakeholders.
  • Analyze demand and historical usage trends to improve forecasting accuracy and reduce shortages/excess.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, program priorities, and quality requirements.
