About The Position

The Construction Site Material Manager plays a critical role in supporting commercial mechanical construction projects by managing the procurement, delivery, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment on site. This position ensures that all materials—pipe, ductwork, fittings, valves, insulation, and fabrication components—are available when and where they are needed to keep installation crews productive and projects on schedule. The Material Manager coordinates closely with project management, site supervision, and vendors to maintain accurate inventory and efficient site logistics.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in material management or logistics within commercial or industrial mechanical construction.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, piping, plumbing, or industrial mechanical systems.
  • Experience using construction management or inventory tracking software (Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar).
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand material take-offs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and basic reporting.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and climbing on active job sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or coursework in Construction Management, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
  • Forklift and telehandler operation (certification preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Manage all material handling and logistics operations for commercial mechanical projects.
  • Coordinate material deliveries in line with project timelines and installation sequences.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials for accuracy and quality.
  • Management of rental equipment.
  • Maintain organized laydown and storage areas to ensure efficient material access and inventory control.
  • Track material usage, backorders, returns, and surplus items using project tracking systems.
  • Work with foremen and field leaders to forecast upcoming material needs and prevent shortages or delays.
  • Implement and enforce proper handling and storage practices for sensitive mechanical components (e.g., stainless steel, insulation, controls).
  • Ensure tools, rigging, and equipment are properly logged, maintained, and accounted for.
  • Support cost control efforts by monitoring material waste, damage, and over-ordering.
  • Communicate proactively with vendors to resolve delivery discrepancies or damaged shipments.
  • Prepare daily and weekly material reports for site leadership.
  • Ensure all material handling activities comply with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
