The Material Handling Associate at GAF is responsible for efficiently managing inventory and ensuring the safe operation of equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role involves receiving orders, operating forklifts, scanning merchandise, and maintaining accurate records while adhering to safety and quality standards. The position emphasizes teamwork, communication, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

  • Receive orders from supervisor or assistant foreman.
  • Safely operate sit-down forklift or walkie-rider to pull and properly stack orders on pallets.
  • Proficiently operate hand-held scanning devices to scan merchandise from bin locations to the order using Warehouse Management Inventory System.
  • Accurately record daily activities and control sheets.
  • Fill out trailer manifest and related shipping documents in a timely manner.
  • Report inventory issues in a timely manner.
  • Meet established efficiency standards on a daily basis.
  • Request maintenance orders for machine or safety problems or hazards.
  • Adhere to all plant safety, quality, production, and efficiency standards.
  • Maintain ongoing housekeeping throughout the shift and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 6 months prior manufacturing experience in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Prior UPS Worldship experience required.
  • Available to work overtime on short notice, nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Prior working knowledge of bar coded inventory management system desirable.
  • Ability to communicate, both written and orally, by means of radio or telephone.
  • Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to differentiate various stock items and product differences.
