About The Position

The Material Handler drives gasoline-, liquefied gas-, or electric-powered industrial trucks equipped with lifting devices such as forklifts, boom, scoop, lift beam, swivel-hook, fork-grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch. They operate overhead and jib cranes to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials in the shop. The position involves performing various tasks to assist in machine shop activities and reports to the Production Control Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Company Fork Lift and Crane Operator Permit.
  • Certification in Specialist Lifting and Rigging, Boom and Scissor Lift, and Big Red Fork Lift.

Responsibilities

  • Drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
  • Position forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials.
  • Transport load to designated area.
  • Unload and stack material by raising and lowering lifting device.
  • Deliver metal parts or stock to designated work areas for machining.
  • Lift metal part or stock onto machine and secure it using wrenches.
  • Inventory materials on work floor and supply workers with materials as needed.
  • Weigh materials or products and record weight on tags, labels, or production schedules.
  • Add coolant to reservoirs of machines and lubricate machine parts.
  • Reclaim cutting and lubricating oils from machines.
  • Remove metal chips and shavings from surfaces of machines.
  • Clean around work areas.
  • Separate metal shavings, chips, and scrap materials from trash.
  • Remove burrs or excess metal from machined parts.
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions.
  • Assist receiving and inspection in the movement of materials.
  • Load and unload company and vendor trucks using tow motor and material handling equipment.
  • Store materials in designated locations.
  • Assist stores, burnout, and saw room areas in the movement of routed items.
  • Ensure routed items contain a bar code router and that the current operation has been signed off.
  • Visually inspect material handling equipment for mechanical problems.
  • Conform to all company safety policies.
