About The Position

The Material Handler ensures efficient movement, storage, and organization of materials to support production operations. This role involves operating Hi-Lo equipment, stocking materials, maintaining 5S standards, and adhering to safety protocols. The Material Handler plays a vital role in keeping production running smoothly by managing inventory, supporting departments, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Requirements

  • Prior experience operating Hi-Lo equipment is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Effective communication skills to respond promptly to intercom instructions.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs of materials as required.
  • Familiarity with 5S and FIFO methodologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and complete the Hi-Lo checklist for each Hi-Lo used.
  • Review production boards, production floor, trash, cardboard, and sequence areas to identify immediate needs.
  • Pick up and stock areas with Work-In-Progress (WIP) products as needed, ensuring partial boxes are tagged and transported appropriately.
  • Ensure all totes/boxes have an Operator ID sticker before moving containers from the press.
  • Transport finished assemblies using dividers to prevent scratches or scuffing.
  • Supply components to production areas, ensuring correct colors and materials.
  • Maintain organized sequence areas by stocking parts, removing lids, and placing items appropriately.
  • Stock materials/components for all departments (e.g., lids, boxes, skids, totes).
  • Transfer empty boxes from the plant to the press and stage finished goods.
  • Replace skid of “bad boxes” as needed.
  • Keep the aisles clear of products and boxes to ensure safety.
  • Perform 5S warehouse tasks, including labeling racks and organizing materials.
  • Pull Gaylord materials following the "First In-First Out" (FIFO) method.
  • Secure items on the top shelf in racks with bands or shrink wrap.
  • Dispose of trash and monitor gauges for pickup as needed.
  • Stock presses with WIP products for the next shift.
  • Weigh and record full scrap Gaylord containers and replace them with empty ones.
  • Dispose of cardboard and sweep the back aisle.
  • Charge the Hi-Lo at designated charging stations during breaks or shift exchanges.
  • Report near misses and incidents immediately.
