About The Position

The Material Handler position is responsible for performing loading and unloading operations for RJW trucks and outside carriers. This role ensures all shipments are properly stored in the warehouse and involves picking orders from warehouse inventory as directed by customers. The individual will be involved in various warehouse operations, including documentation, coordination with dispatch and sales, maintaining warehouse organization, and operating various types of forklifts.

Requirements

  • Must know how to operate a Forklift, Cherry Picker, and Stand-up Reach Forklift.
  • Good communication, problem resolution and people skills.
  • Ability to maintain orderly operation of warehouse.
  • Must be able to communicate, read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to determine "root cause" of problem and determine corrective action.
  • Knowledge of Business Operating Systems, Internet software, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced warehouse.

Responsibilities

  • Perform loading and unloading of truck and trailers safely and efficiently using proper procedures, including outside carrier equipment.
  • Pick and move items ranging from 1 lb to 50 lbs or more multiple times.
  • Ensure all documentation is properly completed.
  • Coordinate with dispatch and sales to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Properly store all inbound loads in the correct warehouse location.
  • Ensure all shipments are properly marked before storing or picking.
  • Maintain warehouse area with orderly stacking and good housekeeping.
  • Spot trailers to maintain efficient yard organization and flow of equipment into the warehouse.
  • Coordinate paperwork with drivers after normal dispatch operations are finished for the day.
  • Perform general maintenance of the area surrounding the warehouse.
  • Ensure trailers are swept clean of any debris when empty.
  • Ensure all shipments are correctly staged and loaded properly.
  • Process outbound freight cross-dock freight as necessary.
  • Operate Stand-up Reach Forklifts, Cherry Pickers, and some sit-down forklift work.
  • Follow all safety procedures at all times.
  • Build pallets and break down stock.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by manager.
