About The Position

JSP is seeking additional team members to support company growth related to the production of automotive, HVAC, packaging, sports and a variety of consumer goods markets. Our Detroit, Michigan location is in need of a Material Handler/Yard Jockey to support the achievement of daily Material Handling goals by moving, loading, unloading and transferring of raw materials and finished goods and operation of the recycling units.

Requirements

  • MUST BE ABLE TO BACK A 53 FT TRAILER IN TO A DOCK
  • A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and direction.
  • This position requires the ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing. Must be able to operate a forklift truck, which requires the use of arms and legs, the ability to get onto truck and depth perception to stack and/or move crates or other material. Must have finger dexterity and be able to see and hear. Must be able to climb and work from a ladder. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Safety equipment consists of all forms of PPE such as safety glasses, ear plugs and steel-toed shoes.

Responsibilities

  • Package materials in sacks/cartons/boxes and bulk, completing required documentation, labels, etc. Perform quality/density checks, ensuring only quality products are shipped to customers.
  • Operate recycling systems to provide refeed materials for the extrusion department. This includes but is not limited to, the unloading of scrap trailers, inspection of scrap parts, timely and continual stocking of grinder conveyers, monitoring of material transfers, and changing of screens.
  • Load and unload as needed for shipping and receiving functions. Follow procedures to ensure accuracy of deliveries and shipments. Move deliveries to proper locations in the plant. Put away raw materials in appropriate location ensuring First In First Out (FIFO) process is followed.
  • Weigh all incoming and outgoing trailers.
  • Maintain yard truck fluid levels and running condition of yard truck.
  • Maintain accurate information pertaining to volume of empty trailer and scrap filled trailers
  • Keep Scale computer system up to date regarding trailer status (in or out of service and reason for status), trailer weights, etc.
