About The Position

MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, a leading US publisher of Trade and Academic titles, has a job opening for a Material Handler-QC & Packing, in our Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend; stoop; walk; stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is required to climb stairs or sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Selects the proper size carton/wrap for shipping small orders.
  • Ensures the correct quantity of books is packed.
  • Packs books in cartons using various dunnage materials to eliminate damage in transit.
  • At Error Control, checks or counts order for accuracy and/or damage.
  • Places single book on wrapping machine and then affixes shipping label.
  • Selects the proper size carton/wrap for shipping small orders.
  • Ensures the correct quantity of books is packed.
  • Packs books in cartons using various dunnage materials to eliminate damage in transit and pushes into taping machine.
  • At Error Control, checks or counts order for accuracy and/or damage.
  • Operates the single book wrapping machine, places book on wrap and then affixes shipping label.
  • Maintains various quality control reports that monitor picking accuracy by picker.
  • Returns over-picks and missed picks to the Pick Module.
  • Refills the bubble wrap machine.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Conducts operations in a manner that promotes safety.
  • Enforces established safety, health, and housekeeping policies and procedures in order to minimize injuries, loss of production time, and damage.
  • Conforms to all company policies and procedures (Employee Handbook)
  • Complies with all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
