About The Position

The Material Handler performs the physical or administrative tasks involved in the shipping, receiving, storing, distributing, and order fulfillment of merchandise, products, materials, parts, supplies, and equipment. This role includes checking goods received and for distribution against purchase orders or invoices, maintaining records of goods, and rejecting unsatisfactory items. The Material Handler packages and prepares products and merchandise for final shipment, posts weights and shipping charges, and lifts heavy items, potentially operating a forklift. Additionally, they prepare and maintain records of merchandise shipped, review customer orders, examine, stock, and distribute merchandise, products, and materials in inventory warehouses, distribution centers, or manufacturing lines. This position requires little or no prior knowledge of the job, as the individual will acquire job skills and procedures to complete routine tasks under close supervision.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and process creation/optimization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Unpacking and checking goods received against purchase orders or invoices, maintaining records of received goods.
  • Rejecting unsatisfactory, damaged, or defected items.
  • Lifting or moving heavy items.
  • Operating equipment to move or expedite material to proper department or storage location.
  • Storing material in their designated locations after being received in the system.
  • Examining stocks and distributing materials and supplies in inventory to manufacturing lines.
  • Monitoring and controlling inventory integrity.
  • Preparing goods for final shipment and maintaining records of shipped merchandise.
  • Participating in audits and 5S program.
  • Basic knowledge in continuous improvement activities.
