The Material Handler I supports operations by storing and shipping materials at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to -196 degrees C with potentially hazardous properties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No previous work experience required
  • Able to work independently and set priorities
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to work with methods to handle, process and store specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system
  • Able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, and marked changes in temperature
  • Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols
  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs and push up to 70 lbs
  • Periodically work in walk-in freezers and refrigerators for up to 5 hours per day
  • PIT equipment will be in use

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming raw materials
  • Facilitate movement of materials, including hazardous materials, across the site
  • Maintain accurate inventory through receipts, adjustments, and cycle counts
  • Main job function is package movement and delivery throughout our Frederick campus
  • Site delivery driving, pick, pack, sort, arrange, count, store, and accurately process items for storage and/or shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements
  • Sustain a high level of quality to ensure customers receive accurate product and in the time requested.
  • Verify the quality, type and number of materials received are accurate and appropriate documentation is present (e.g. packing list).
  • Safely operate distribution equipment, as required
