About the position

The Material Handler is responsible for the movement of material throughout the site. This may include loading/unloading of trailers and movement of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods. The position operates on a shift schedule, specifically A Team from 5:50am to 6:00pm, following a 2-2-3 rotation. The starting hourly rate for this position is $21.58/hr.

Responsibilities

  • Move material to/from raw, WIP, Finished, Shipping, Receiving, and manufacturing areas.
  • Unload/load trucks/tankers with incoming/outgoing materials.
  • Verify materials against receiving/shipping documents.
  • Complete appropriate transactions to document the movement of material within the Inventory Management System.
  • Support inventory accuracy by completing warehouse and departmental cycle counts and correcting discrepancies.
  • Help manage winding drum and rack inventories.
  • Pick up and transfer material racks, pallets, and other consumable supplies to/from production areas as required.
  • Condense warehouse space and maintain good housekeeping.
  • Perform all assignments, duties, and tasks in a safe manner following standard procedures and practices.
  • Encourage others to adhere to safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Correct and/or report all unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Perform duties to continuously improve quality and productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area.
  • Assist in equipment maintenance activities as directed.
  • Communicate and coordinate necessary information to appropriate department/shift employees to ensure effective operations.
  • Lead in the recycling of pallets, cardboard, and scrap materials.
  • Support all 5S housekeeping activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instruction.
  • Must regard safety as a core value and serve as a role model for other employees.
  • Must have strong service and quality focus; address issues effectively when problems arise.
  • Must be able to actively contribute in a team-based environment.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in essential tasks of the job and a willingness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Must have demonstrated record of flexibility and dependability to support production and customer focus.
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, including short-notice requests.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with computer applications, especially strong MFG Pro transactional skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5+ years of previous material handling experience.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical aptitude, and logical problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in working independently in a safe and timely manner.
  • Be motivated towards productivity, safety, and quality improvements.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement efforts and knowledgeable about ELS Operating Principles preferred.
  • Adaptive, flexible, able to handle ambiguity.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
