About The Position

The Material and Equipment Coordinator is responsible for providing oversight, coordination, organization and timely procurement of specialty materials, supplies, and equipment for the various areas of assigned department. The Material and Equipment Coordinator is the resource for the acquisition of supplies, services, and equipment along with inventory par levels and inventory control.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • 1-2 years' experience with supply operations or direct patient care in a clinical environment
  • Knowledge in all aspects of supply/equipment processing, ordering or automated system
  • Experience with standard office software
  • Clinical efficiency
  • Ability to educate staff regarding the use and cleaning of specialized equipment related to assigned department/division.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge in the use of universal precautions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to make decisions independently; self driven and a skilled negotiator

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree
  • Paramedic/Emergency Department Technician/Anesthesia Technician
  • 3-5 years EDT or Anesthesia Tech or 1-2 years Paramedic experience

Responsibilities

  • Manages the orders for new supplies and equipment: Orders supplies based on established par levels, follows up with purchasing and/or vendor to ensure delivery date and time is acceptable, and escalates issues to management in a timely manner. Establishes procedures for purchasing special order supplies and equipment related to the specific patient care area. Ensures that accurate record of supply distribution is maintained in materials management system. (25%)
  • Coordinates the movement of materials: To and from the shipping dock, other departments, and other facilities if needed. Leads equipment related initiatives such as equipment evaluations. (15%)
  • Ensures appropriate disposition of infectious waste. Performs routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions and appearance of the patient care and supply area. (5%)
  • Works closely with management to ensure that appropriate issuing and charging of hospital supplies. (10%)
  • Maintains patient care equipment and coordinates with bio-med regarding any repairs and inventory updates. Maintains work orders and verifies follow up. (15%)
  • Assists with supporting Environment of Care (EOC) needs (15%)
  • Manages the inventory of hospital owned supplies: Ensures par levels are maintained of both special order and Pyxis supplies, communicates urgent supply needs to management, returns special order supplies to vendor prior to expiration date, removes and tracks outdated special order supplies, and supports automated as well as manual inventory areas. (15%)
  • Serve as a resource to nursing, PCAS, educators and techs during rollout of new products and equipment.
  • Research all material and equipment recalls via RASMAS systems.
  • Assist with training new hires on Pyxis and Materials Management Systems for ordering.
  • Meet with vendors for new or existing products and obtain support or training for staff, obtain quotes and work with appropriate Business Manager and Supply Chain on price benchmarking opportunities.
  • Support the Patient Care Value Analysis Committee and act as a liaison with supply chain.
  • Attend appropriate unit councils/meetings.
  • Assist in special projects - remodeling or product evaluations.
  • Multidisciplinary Liaison.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned within the job specifications.
