About The Position

The Material Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and material visibility across warehouse, yard, and production staging areas. This role ensures inventory accuracy through cycle counting, discrepancy investigation, and coordination with operations teams. The position supports complex door SKUs, including prehung units, slabs, frames, glass options, and hardware components, while ensuring materials are correctly stored, labeled, and system-accurate. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–4 years of experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or building materials distribution.
  • Strong attention to detail and basic math skills.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and understand units of measure.
  • Computer proficiency, including ERP/WMS and RF scanning systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with door products and configurations (prehung units, slabs, frames, handing, swing, glass, hardware).
  • Prior cycle count or physical inventory experience.
  • Familiarity with WIP tracking and production environments.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and scheduled cycle counts for door units, slabs, frames, glass inserts, hardware, and related components.
  • Maintain accurate records of count results, discrepancies, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Participate in and provide mandatory support for annual physical inventory counts.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to mis-labeling, mixed stacks, unit-of-measure errors, damage, scrap, or rework.
  • Verify materials are stored in correct locations including racks, carts, A-frames, floor stacks, and staging lanes.
  • Identify and report misclassified or improperly stored inventory.
  • Support housekeeping and material organization standards to reduce damage and handling errors.
  • Maintain and validate ERP/WMS item master data, including dimensions, configuration codes, and units of measure.
  • Use computers, RF scanners, and inventory systems to track and reconcile material movements.
  • Support WIP and material flow tracking between receiving, production, and shipping.
  • Work closely with production, warehouse, purchasing, and customer service teams to resolve material constraints and shortages.
  • Communicate inventory issues clearly and professionally to operations leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to inventory accuracy and material handling.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations related to inventory handling and warehouse operations.
  • May operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts) as required and certified.
