About The Position

This internship position involves performing routine or semi-routine operations to prepare aircraft parts for the material bonding process. The intern will work from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions to assemble, locate, and align parts. Key tasks include cleaning, scraping, sanding, or grinding rotor blades and airfoil sections using various tools, applying metal cleaning or treatment materials, removing excess adhesive, and preparing areas for filling. The role also involves drying chemically treated areas, removing protective materials, and sanding or grinding to specified dimensions. The intern will check documentation to ensure all operations are performed, select and apply bonding agents, perform minor rework, and prepare pressure bags. They will utilize production aids like jigs and fixtures and may assist a Material Bonder "A".

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Degree (GED)
  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine or semi routine operations required to prepare aircraft parts or articles for the material bonding process.
  • Working from simple blueprints, drawings or oral instructions, assembles, locates and aligns parts or articles in correct position and proper sequence.
  • Cleans, scrapes, sands, or grinds, production or experimental rotor blades or airfoil sections using hand tools or powered equipment, performing any combination of the following tasks: Cleans and wipes parts with cleaning cloths, applies appropriate metal cleaning or treatment materials.
  • Removes excess adhesive or squeezed out materials.
  • Locates, masks and tapes off and prepares areas to be filled.
  • May be required to dry chemically treated or filled areas per established procedures.
  • Removes tape and other similar protective materials and sands or grinds according to pre-established finish dimensions.
  • Checks travelers, MDARS, Rework or other forms to insure all required operations are performed.
  • Selects and mixes proper bonding agent and applies it according to standard procedure.
  • Does minor rework, fitting or trimming as required.
  • Makes up pressure bag and seals edges for leaks or may use prepared bag.
  • Uses various production aids such as jigs, and fixtures and necessary tools.
