Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in coatings application, including surface preparation (sanding, stripping, masking).
  • Experience with spray, wipe, dip, brush, and other material application methods.
  • Ability to work to blueprints, specifications, and engineering direction.
  • Familiarity with mixing materials and verifying correct viscosities and expiration dates.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools and interpreting engineering documents.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications and security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with robotic material application systems.
  • Ability to operate air and airless spray equipment.
  • Familiarity with touch-up and rework processes in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of working in a classified or advanced development environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of material application techniques including spray, wipe, brush, dip, and heat-activated processes on aircraft parts, assemblies, and finished aircraft.
  • Interpret blueprints and engineering documents to determine appropriate surface preparations, application techniques, and masking requirements.
  • Prepare and treat aircraft surfaces using sanding, masking, stripping, and cleaning procedures.
  • Apply adhesives, aerodynamic fillers, sealants, and coatings with precision—often requiring strict adherence to blueprint tolerances and specifications.
  • Operate robotic and manual equipment for applying surface materials, including programming and monitoring robotic systems.
  • Mix and test materials, including checking expiration dates, viscosity, and proper ratios.
  • Use precision measuring tools and shop math to confirm correct thickness and tolerances.
  • Perform touch-ups, rework, and modifications as needed.
  • Place parts and assemblies in curing ovens, monitor drying conditions, and operate support equipment like ladders, safety lights, and ventilation systems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while adhering to all safety standards.
  • Work onsite at Lockheed Martin Palmdale or offsite at vendor or customer locations, as needed.
