About The Position

The Material and Process Engineering team located in McKinney, Texas, promotes process and product improvement through material development, in-process verification and analytical services. Our team consists of a staff of engineers and scientists with varied backgrounds (CHE, ME, Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, etc.) and broad experience. Team members provide support to RTX programs, suppliers, and end users by conducting a variety of materials investigations, data collection activities and analysis to address the changing needs of the electronics and defense industries. The posted requisition is for a member of our Material and Process Engineering team in McKinney, supporting the Non-Metallics Test Lab (NMTL), which is primarily responsible for testing materials such as plastics, composites, rubbers, and molded parts. The NMTL provides continuous production facing engineering supports on all aspects of material testing, ranged from incoming material testing, shelf-life recertification, in-process verification coupon testing, and is able to support program integration from development, material selection and validation testing through FRP. Specific responsibilities include performing various tests per ASTM methods (short-beam shear, flatwise tensile testing, 4-point bending testing, lap shear testing, etc.), void content measurements, etc. The candidate should possess some knowledge of the theory and operation of various analytical tools including universal testing machines (e.g., Instron), thermal analysis tools, optical microscopes, etc. The preparation of formal analysis reports will be required. Good interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate will be expected to work on his or her own with some oversight by Sr. engineers, and will be responsible for maintenance of the tools, audit preparations, etc.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science (AS) degree or higher in STEM. Minimum of a high school diploma with 6 years of experience.
  • Theoretical knowledge of lab analytical tools such as universal testing machines, thermal analysis tools, optical microscopes, etc.

  • Good understanding of drawings and relevant industry standards.
  • General knowledge of other related disciplines such as materials analysis.
