About The Position
We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Mate who can meet the requirements. Please review the following requirements carefully before applying. Only applicants with verifiable experience and qualifications should apply. We require our Mates to also know how to operate a tender boat. Please only apply if you have tender boat experience. Applicants must meet all the listed qualifications to be considered for the position. Those who cannot meet these requirements will not be considered. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to meet and perform these requirements upon hire. A mate's general responsibilities are in the scope of supporting all dredge operations. Prior knowledge of the roles and duties as required. We do not provide transportation; this is the employee's responsibility. You will be assigned to dredges based on the company's operational needs. This is not for a live-on dredge. We provide per diem, and employees are responsible for their lodging and meals.
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent
- Two or more years of experience as Mate
- Excellent safety and mechanical skills
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description
- Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment screening (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing
- Must be authorized to work in the US. This position is not eligible for work VISA sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices
- Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures
- Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE
- Ensures team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies
- Works under the direction of the chief, engineers, outside mechanic, and captain
- Supervises work activities of deckhands on shift
- Runs anchor and skidder barges
- Supervises the handling of equipment and vessels engaged in various states of setting up and breaking down pipelines and anchors
- Coordinates anchor moves, laying of sub-line, addition and removal of pontoons and buoys
- Examines gear and life-saving equipment and orders repair or replacement of defective gear and equipment
- Oversees repairs and utilization of dredging equipment and other hoist machines used to lift material
- Engages in maintenance and repair of cable; the removal and replacement of teeth on the cutterhead, cleaning and maintenance of the pumps and impellers, and utilizing various hand and power tools when drilling, cutting, or torching various materials in the course of fabricating work pieces
- Assumes responsibility for the direction and control of each task that he is supervising
- Assists outside crew as directed with repairs and maintenance
