About The Position

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States. A Mate on an Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) reports to the Captain and operates under the supervision of the OSV Master, providing relief for the Captain during watches.

Requirements

  • Prior On the Job Training and experience in a similar role in the offshore industry.
  • Must possess U.S. Coast Guard Mates license of sufficient gross tonnage for the specific vessel for Near Coastal voyages.
  • Must possess knowledge and sufficient training in Dynamic Positioning, Dredging and Bed Leveling Operations.
  • Must be able to operate the maintenance management system and to develop knowledge of regulations required for proper administration and procurement of supplies.
  • TWIC card required
  • The ability to learn and use the procedures associated with working on a vessel such as firefighting, first aid, and use of life saving equipment
  • Commitment to work safely and follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills – able to express ideas, provide clear direction, ensure audience understanding
  • Maintains positive attitude, and can motivate and improve team morale
  • Complete a pre-employment physical examination, drug screen, and background check

Responsibilities

  • Periodically the employee will be required to spend 7 days watching safety training videos prudent to their job duties.
  • Periodically check inventory and requisition supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • He/she will oversee the maintenance, repair, inspection, and daily work progress of the crew; maintain daily logs, record books, and other reports.
  • He/she utilizes navigation devices such as radar, depth finder, compass, maps, and USCG aids to navigation.
  • He steers the OSV to various destinations while avoiding reefs, shoals, and other hazards to shipping.
  • May lift, carry, pull, or push items weighing up to 25 lbs. when handing parts or supplies.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
