About the position

The Medical Assistant will work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers, supervisors, and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS according to governing body requirements and established internal policies and procedures. The role involves treating others with respect, administering prescribed medications and treatments, assisting patients with mobility, and preparing lab specimens for shipment. The Medical Assistant will also assist healthcare providers with procedures, maintain patient records, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including HIPAA. The position requires maintaining current CPR certifications and participating in clinical staff meetings and educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with NHS providers, supervisors, and personnel.
  • Treat others respectfully, including patients and staff.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to nursing standards.
  • Assist patients to ambulate and with mobility.
  • Assist healthcare providers in distributing patient education materials.
  • Prepare lab specimens for shipment as requested.
  • Assist healthcare providers with procedures and maintain equipment.
  • Receive and implement activities related to standing orders and medication administration.
  • Prepare exam rooms and required instruments for procedures.
  • Prepare patient record information for provider referrals.
  • Answer patient and hospital phone calls as advised by provider.
  • Review charts for completeness for daily appointments.
  • Determine needs for medical supplies and prepare ordering lists.
  • Maintain tracking log for all lab, x-ray, and referrals.
  • Attend and participate in Clinical Staff meetings and educational programs.
  • Document all assessments, treatments, and medications in medical records.
  • Comply with all regulatory agencies and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain current CPR certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years experience in a hospital or clinic setting (preferred).
  • Must possess a certified/registered MA certification or diploma from an accredited MA program (preferred).
  • Possess current BLS certification.
  • Possess light typing skills and computer knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to visually assess patient condition and communicate with patients and families.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and proof of insurance.
