About The Position

We are seeking a highly experienced Master Scheduler on an 18-month contract to lead the standardization, optimization, and support of project scheduling practices across the organization. This role will serve as the organization's primary authority on Microsoft Project and will be responsible for ensuring the tool is used effectively, consistently, and strategically across multiple programs and teams. This position requires extensive, hands-on Microsoft Project expertise and the ability to apply advanced scheduling techniques to complex, multi-project environments. The SME will not only build and manage schedules but also establish best practices, train users, and improve overall scheduling maturity across the organization. Requirements

  • 5+ years of advanced, hands-on Microsoft Project experience (Desktop and/or Project Online)
  • Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Project scheduling tools and functionality
  • Experience building and managing complex, multi-phase project or program schedules
  • Strong understanding of project management principles including schedule, cost, scope, and risk
  • Experience creating standardized templates and improving scheduling processes
  • Ability to train and support users with varying levels of Microsoft Project experience
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing, defense, or similar technical environments
  • Experience with Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) and program-level scheduling
  • Experience with Project Server, Project Online, or Power BI integrations
  • PMP certification or equivalent experience
  • Experience with OpenPlan
  • Experience with Cobra

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the organization's primary Microsoft Project expert and technical authority
  • Build, maintain, and optimize complex project and program schedules with multiple dependencies and resource allocations
  • Ensure proper use of advanced Microsoft Project functionality including baselines, critical path analysis, resource leveling, and schedule forecasting
  • Troubleshoot scheduling and tool issues and provide hands-on support to program teams
  • Drive consistent and effective use of Microsoft Project across the organization
  • Support development and management of Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) where applicable
  • Develop and implement standardized scheduling templates, tools, and best practices within Microsoft Project
  • Establish governance and standards for schedule creation, maintenance, and reporting
  • Improve consistency, accuracy, and reliability of project schedules across all programs
  • Partner with leadership to align scheduling practices with business and program objectives
  • Train project managers and team members on Microsoft Project functionality and scheduling best practices
  • Create user guides, templates, and training materials to support adoption and consistency
  • Act as a coach and advisor to teams needing support with schedule development and management
  • Develop and maintain reporting structures for schedule performance, milestones, and risks
  • Ensure accurate tracking of progress against baseline schedules
  • Support leadership with clear, actionable insights derived from Microsoft Project data
  • Support integration of Microsoft Project data with reporting tools such as Power BI where applicable
  • Work closely with program managers, engineering teams, finance, and operations
  • Support integration of schedules across multiple projects and programs
  • Align scheduling practices with resource planning and financial forecasting
