A Master Scheduler creates and manages an organization's overarching production schedule, integrating resources, materials, and labor to meet deadlines efficiently, ensuring timely delivery, minimizing costs, and supporting business goals by coordinating with various departments, analyzing performance data, and developing contingency plans using ERP/APS software. Key duties involve scheduling production runs, balancing demand with capacity, managing inventory, and communicating with stakeholders like sales, production, and management.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management
  • 3–7+ years in manufacturing, planning, or project management.
  • Mastery of systems like SAP, Oracle EBS, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 to manage production data and inventory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) tools like Kinaxis.
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Excel (macros, pivot tables) and BI tools like Tableau or Power BI.

  • CPIM/CSCP: Offered by the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM).
  • PMI-SP/PMP: Offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize the Master Production Schedule (MPS) by integrating sales forecasts, customer orders, inventory targets, and capacity constraints.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Production, Sales, Procurement, and Logistics to align schedules, address constraints, and support Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP).
  • Perform rough-cut capacity and resource planning to ensure labor, materials, and equipment can support production demand.
  • Monitor production performance against the schedule, analyze variances, and drive continuous improvement in planning accuracy and execution.
  • Identify potential risks such as material shortages, capacity limitations, or equipment downtime, and develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions.
  • Balance material availability with inventory holding costs to support operational and financial goals.
  • Utilize the ODYSSEY system for production planning, scheduling, reporting, and performance analysis.
