Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services offers a one-year Master’s Level Internship Program for students in Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work, designed to support emerging clinicians in their transition from academic training to professional practice through structured, supervised clinical experiences. The program follows a developmental learning model with four stages: organizational/departmental onboarding, supervisor-led sessions with intern observation, intern-led sessions with supervisor observation, and increased independence with ongoing supervisory oversight. Interns may be placed in various clinical settings including Inpatient and Outpatient Services, Partial Hospitalization Programs, Residential Care, Child & Adolescent Services, Psychological Assessment & Testing, School-Based Counseling (K–12), Substance Use Disorder Treatment, and Urgent Care and Crisis Services. Interns are integrated into interdisciplinary teams and supported through didactic learning and exposure to leadership and clinical professionals, emphasizing professional development, ethical practice, and preparation for post-graduate clinical roles. As an Intern – Clinical Outpatient Therapist, the student intern provides assessment, counseling, treatment, referrals, and advocacy services for patients under the supervision of a licensed professional, upholding high-quality care standards set by government agencies and Pine Rest. Interns are expected to demonstrate excellent customer service and enthusiasm for the program and organization, driven to make an impact and foster belonging in a diverse workplace.
