About The Position

Under the direction of the Building Maintenance Superintendent, constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment; working from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions. Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework and trim, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools. Installs glass in doors, windows, etc. Installs/repairs electrical and plumbing systems, and performs general inspection, repair, and maintenance of all city buildings; such as repairs to heating/air conditioning units, electrical, plumbing, carpentry work, painting, demolition, and other maintenance-related work as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Class B Texas Driver's License required
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operations and building maintenance tools.
  • Exceptional carpentry/construction skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and heating and air conditioning repair.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment a Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling Certificate.
  • Ability to maintain an effective relationship with other employees, supervisors and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in welding is desired, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Construction, repair and general maintenance of City facilities
  • Carpentry/Construction (including framing, sheetrocking, etc).
  • Repair plumbing fixtures/systems.
  • Install/repair electrical systems.
  • Repair/maintain HVAC systems.
  • General building maintenance.
  • Operate heavy equipment (i.e., backhoe, forklift and skid loader), power tools, and hand tools.
  • Demolition of structures.
  • Responsible for the up-keep of maintenance tools.
  • Maintain daily work orders.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
