Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as a Master Machinist (e.g., conceptualizing, designing, and building apparatus for scientific research, programming and operation of CNC machines)
  • Experience with managing and overseeing shop resources
  • Experience with fabricating equipment and assemblies required to advance research
  • Experience with designing, building, and maintaining ultra-high vacuum systems
  • Ability to design, fabricate, and maintain specialized laboratory equipment (e.g., optical instruments, specialized microelectronic manufacturing equipment, and x rays)
  • Ability to build and install advanced piping for toxic gas systems
  • HS diploma or GED
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • TS/SCI FSP Clearance Level

Responsibilities

  • design, fabricate, build, and maintain equipment and assemblies to advance research projects
  • set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments
  • Apply basic principles, theories, and concepts, with industry knowledge
  • Solve routine problems of limited scope and complexity; referring more complex issues to higher levels
  • Works under direct supervision
