Why You’ll Love This Role: As a Master Fabricator at Singer, you are the guardian of craftsmanship, precision, and artistry within the Fabrication department. You will lead advanced fabrication and welding work on complex vehicle systems, ensuring every structural and aesthetic element is executed to the highest possible standards. In addition to your technical excellence, you are responsible for elevating the next generation of fabricators through hands-on mentorship, training programs, and process leadership. The position will be responsible for managing, inspiring, and developing employees. The position provides hands-on support, leadership, and direction, and takes pride in their hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail. With a relentless focus on quality, you will drive continuous improvement, oversee department workflows, support cross-functional collaboration, and lead quality control efforts—demonstrating that at Singer, "Everything is Important."

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum ten (10) years of related work experience in an automotive (chassis/ parts), restoration, manufacturing and or assembly environment
  • Intermediate automotive knowledge and knowledge of fabrication, machining/ welding equipment setup, process, and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of fixturing
  • Advanced competency in GTAW (TIG) welding process
  • Advanced competency in GMAW (MIG) welding process
  • Skilled with making, restoring, and/or creating custom automotive parts
  • Advanced knowledge of metal fabrication methods - cutting, shaping, forming, shearing, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of filler material and required gas applications for various steel alloys, aluminum, and some exotic materials
  • Familiarity of conventional and precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to properly fit / align parts and panels according to design specifications
  • Ability to interpret manuals, design specifications, technical blueprints, SAE, and metric drawings

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and continuously improve a structured Apprentice and Fabricator training program (with training materials), fostering craftsmanship and technical growth.
  • Provide hands-on coaching and mentorship to fabricators of all levels. Participate in interviews, technical evaluations, and career development feedback loops.
  • Expertly weld, fabricate, and restore chassis and custom parts to exacting specifications using a wide range of techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Lead quality control inspections at critical stages of fabrication. Ensure all parts and assemblies meet engineering, aesthetic, and safety requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Body, Paint, and Assembly teams to align on technical expectations, resolve challenges, and support seamless vehicle production.
  • Collaborate with Leads and Supervisors to ensure departmental scheduling, part staging, and job flow are organized and efficient. Proactively address production issues.
  • Identify and implement improvements in fabrication techniques, tooling, fixture design, and documentation that support quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Enforce operating procedures, EH&S policies, and cleanliness standards. Ensure proper use and maintenance of shop equipment and materials.
  • Lead the setup of complex fixtures, jigs, and production tooling. Provide technical input on materials selection and preparation for custom projects.
  • Accurately track, record, and communicate fabrication progress, process notes, and quality feedback. Provide design feedback based on real-world applications.
  • Act as a role model for discipline, craftsmanship, and teamwork. Support other fabricators and cross-functional departments when needed to uphold delivery standards.
  • Works with Fabricators and Supervisors to ensure production demands meet the specified production schedule
  • Leads team of Fabricators to ensure production demands meets the specified production schedule
  • Creates daily work plans with Production Supervisor for each team member
  • Monitors growth and development in all skillsets for new/lower grade technicians
  • Performs root cause analysis and problem solving.
  • Trains new/lower grade technicians on processes and procedures
  • Provides feedback to Supervisor on performance and growth of each team member
  • Performs operational procedure according to required engineering specifications
  • Ensures workflow is tracked and on time through daily meetings
  • Prepares and stages upcoming production builds before they enter the department
  • Works daily tasks lists set out by Lead and Production Supervisor
  • Reports any issues/delays in production line to the Lead and ensures correction in a timely manner
  • Prepares and fabricates parts to engineering specifications
  • Assists senior Fabricators with parts and projects
  • Tracks and documents fabrication processes and results
  • Organizes material and parts
  • Provides feedback to Lead on design and process improvement
  • Interacts with Engineering Teams to execute work requests
  • Receives training in various forms of metal fabrication and develops and uses these skills to the highest standard
  • Performs all assignments in accordance with EH&S and security policies
  • Inspects both raw materials and finished products for conformance to quality specifications
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work environment
  • Maintains and services shop equipment
  • Assists other Fabricators, Welders, and team members as necessary
  • Assists in special projects and set up of fixtures as required
