Diesel Master Mechanics are responsible for performing inspections, diagnostic testing, repairs, and maintenance on the vehicle fleet to ensure trucks are safe and on the road. Often master technicians handle the more difficult repairs and assist in training less experienced technicians. Diesel Mechanics must be able to work with minimal direction and may direct the work of others.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions and tight areas)
  • Lifting and carrying weight exceeding 50lbs.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of service area, as well as test drive.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned tasks.
  • Familiarity with using a computer.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
  • Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Ability to travel between locations as needed.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
  • High School or better.
  • General Education Diploma or better.

Nice To Haves

  • Have the ability to identify parts and basic understanding of procurement process preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform service and repairs to fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules and/or from driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues and make necessary repairs.
  • Road test vehicles (if qualified) to diagnose problems or test repairs.
  • Complete yearly DOT inspection forms.
  • Inspect, lubricate, and service vehicles and equipment.
  • Check, fill, and/or change appropriate fluids and filters.
  • Inspect, and repair vehicle support systems, such as electrical, air, and brake systems.
  • Identify and perform repairs to various components and operating systems on the vehicles, equipment, or related components.
  • Perform roadside repairs.
  • Ensure all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order.
  • Assist in training technicians with repairs, and maintenance assignments.
  • Perform required administrative duties, when necessary, parts requisitions, warranties, etc.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties related to tools, materials, shop, and work areas.
  • Have the ability to identify parts and basic understanding of procurement process preferred.
  • May assist in other areas of the vehicle maintenance shop as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders and parts usage) on computer.
  • Perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • May be required to travel within the company for training purposes or business needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
