About The Position

The Manager, MDM, is the owner and custodian of the organization's Item Management processes and technology. This leadership role is responsible for the overall quality, integrity, compliance, and governance strategy of all item-related master data. This role manages the team of Data Stewards, which process new item requests and change orders according to the performance metrics defined by the Manager. The manager serves as the authority on data approval, drives strategic data quality initiatives, defines performance metrics, and collaborates closely with executive stakeholders to evolve the data governance framework and ensure timely operational support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Master Data Management (MDM), Data Governance, or a data quality leadership role.
  • 2+ years of experience directly managing or leading a team of Data Analysts or Data Stewards.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience with Item/Product Master Data within a complex ERP or MDM environment (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Informatica, Stibo).
  • Master Data Management (MDM): Deep expertise in MDM concepts, principles, and system functionality.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Advanced proficiency with data querying tools (e.g., SQL) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) for measuring and reporting on data quality.
  • ERP Systems: Strong functional knowledge of how Item Management data impacts downstream business processes in modules such as Inventory, Purchasing, Finance and POS systems like APEX.
  • Leadership and People Management: Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing data team.
  • Strategic Thinking: Capability to align detailed data quality standards with high-level business objectives and long-term governance strategy.
  • Influencing and Negotiation: Exceptional ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional stakeholders, including senior leadership, to achieve data compliance and strategic goals.
  • Decisive Judgment: Proven ability to make critical, high-stakes data decisions that affect multiple business units.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the final approver for all new Product item requests and change orders to the Item Management data, ensuring complete adherence to established Data Governance Policies and Business Rules.
  • Assume ultimate responsibility for the completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance of all data within the Item Master.
  • Act as the highest escalation point for complex data quality issues and policy exceptions.
  • Manage Data Steward team members: Providing guidance, training, and performance reviews to ensure high productivity with exceptional data quality.
  • Define and oversee the daily workflow of the data management team, ensuring measurable results for processing new items and changes are consistently met.
  • Accountable for the team meeting agreed upon SLA(s) for timely operations support.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders (e.g., IT, Supply Chain, Finance, Sales) to build a strong understanding of Vulcan’s core business requirements. Develop and evolve data governance strategies and standards that leverage industry best practices through processes and technology within the Item Management domain.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in data quality processes, tools, and policy documentation.
  • Define, monitor, and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Item Management team, focusing on data quality, processing efficiency, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Data Steward to define requirements for and assist in the development of necessary data quality reports, dashboards, and monitoring tools to measure adherence to data standards and track team performance.
  • Ensure that the Master Data Management (MDM) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is utilized effectively to enforce data standards and governance policies.
