Working as a Master Data Management (MDM) Data Specialist you will be responsible for the creation of new data records or updates to existing records to ensure the accuracy and quality of data for consumption by various functional areas of the company. By bringing an orientation for data accuracy to work every day you will ensure that customer interactions, business processes, reporting systems, analytics projects, and business decisions within Fastenal are supported with high quality information.

  • Creating new data records based on validated information and governance processes
  • Researching and updating information on MDM topics either prompted through business processes or from specific business users identifying needs for improved information
  • Validating MDM data against other internal and external data sources as needed
  • Maintaining data accuracy and cleanliness by performing integrity checks and cleansing processes, including researching and resolving any issues uncovered
  • Assisting in duplicate record identification and data cleansing to reconcile those situations
  • Identifying data quality or process improvement opportunities and escalating them to leadership where needed
  • Maintaining frequent communication and rapport building with members of our branch operations, corporate support teams and professional sales teams for data validation and issue resolution
  • Processing MDM support requests in a timely and accurate manner while ensuring quality and governance policies and procedures are followed
  • Possess or working towards a degree in business, marketing, data science, information technology, computer science, processes management or related field OR at least 1 year of experience in a customer service or business environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and information accuracy
  • Proficient using the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive company and employee information
  • Highly motivated, self-directed and customer service oriented
  • Learn and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Scheduling flexibility with advance notice

  • Pass the required drug screen (applicable in the US, Puerto Rico, and Guam ONLY)
  • Previous experience working with large data sets
  • Previous experience with research, document processing, data entry, or equivalent business processes
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Excel, and basic database software like Microsoft Access or SQL
  • Previous experience with MDM related software products
