Job Title: Massage Therapist Job Summary: The Massage Therapist is responsible for providing medically prescribed massage therapy that creates a caring and safe environment, addressing the patients comfort needs. Manually manipulates soft tissues and muscles of a patient in a facility or private home to assist in managing pain and increase the patient’s comfort level during the end-of-life process with a scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed, state certified, or registered or licensed as a massage therapist in the state and in good standing with the state board.
  • Certification by the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) or the national license exam from the Federation of State Massage Therapy Board (FSMTB) or the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
  • A minimum of one year experience in a clinical setting; home health or hospice preferred.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Must read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid and current auto liability insurance.
  • Prolonged standing, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
  • Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, gripping, and reaching.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), evaluates a patient to determine the best treatment plan in accordance with the patient’s needs, capabilities, and physical tolerance.
  • Manually manipulates muscles and soft tissues to relieve pain and stress.
  • Uses warm compresses or vibratory devices as needed to aid the massage technique. Observes, evaluates, documents, and reports the patient’s response to the massage treatment team members.
  • Maintains a calm and soothing environment during the treatment.
  • Documents accurate and ongoing patient information, within the patient medical record. All documentation is complete according to the organizational, and professional standards. All documentation is completed as it occurs. All documentation must be done timely, same day as visit, and accurate.
  • Assists patients, family members, and all contacts according to the general performance standards, demonstrating organizational values with all interactions. Coordinates community resources and other agency disciplines participating in patient care.
  • Maintains ongoing effective communication with other hospice personnel involved with patient care. This may involve formal and informal meetings outside of IDG.
  • Participates in hospice and community health programs as required to promote the growth and understanding of the hospice philosophy, including but not limited to, hospice education presentations.
