About The Position

The position involves direct oversight and management of all contracted building security screening personnel and security screening equipment, including X-ray screening devices and magnetometers. The role includes conducting inspections and audits of screening personnel and operations to ensure compliance with contracts, as well as training, investigating, and reviewing complaints related to screening personnel and operations. The individual will maintain positive vendor relations and exercise law enforcement supervision as appropriate to maintain peace and order within County Facilities. The position also requires making command staff decisions in the absence of the Chief or Assistant Chief.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
  • Three years of level three security experience, including one year of lead experience.
  • Thirty hours of college and 18 months of public safety/law enforcement experience may be considered.
  • Must be 21 years of age with a valid Texas Drivers License and a good driving record.
  • Must be licensed as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas.
  • Proficient in the safe handling of firearms.
  • Must meet County standards on physical, psychological exams, and polygraph.
  • Mandatory drug test prior to and during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises contracted screening staff and proprietary security guards, ensuring compliance with County regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Responds to and documents all contractor security complaints.
  • Oversees vendor supervisors and screening operations at various post locations.
  • Addresses complaints and disturbances at screening points, exercising law enforcement authority as necessary.
  • Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of contractor/vendor service delivery methods.
  • Conducts regular meetings with contractors, vendors, and County Purchasing department personnel.
  • Develops schedules and staffing plans for all Screening Points.
  • Trains staff on screening point procedures and the operation of screening devices.
  • Conducts testing of screening points to identify potential issues in security protocols.
  • Writes informational reports and coordinates security staff coverage for screening points.
  • Patrols areas of County facilities where screening points are in place.
  • Responds to assist screeners and security officers in routine or emergency situations.
  • Researches and identifies new equipment, processes, or techniques in screening.
