ACP is proud to offer a summer internship program which runs for approximately 8 weeks from Tuesday, June 16 – Thursday, August 6, 2026. These positions are required to work on a hybrid office schedule out of our Washington, DC headquarters and, as such, applicants must be local to the DC area or able to relocate to DC for the 8-week period. Internships are paid $20/hour on a semi-monthly pay schedule. The Markets & Transmission and Energy Storage Intern contributes to ACP’s policy and advocacy efforts related to electric grid reliability, transmission planning, wholesale electricity markets, and energy storage deployment. This role provides exposure to state and federal policy issues affecting clean energy technologies and market participation. Working across the Markets & Transmission and Energy Storage teams, and in coordination with Policy and State Affairs colleagues, the intern will contribute to policy research, legislative and regulatory tracking, and member-facing materials, gaining insight into how clean energy technologies engage with regulatory agencies and wholesale markets.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, with an interest in public policy, economics, engineering, energy systems, law, or a related field.
  • Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with guidance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and policy areas.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience related to energy markets, transmission policy, regulatory affairs, or energy storage.
  • Familiarity with wholesale electricity market structures or grid reliability concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Interest in clean energy technologies, grid modernization, or energy policy.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor state legislative and regulatory actions related to transmission expansion, interconnection policy, inverter-based resource standards, and energy storage system development.
  • Track policy developments and issues across wholesale electricity markets, including New York ISO, ISO New England, California ISO, PJM Interconnection, ERCOT, Midcontinent ISO, and Southwest Power Pool.
  • Review and summarize external reports and resources related to energy storage system deployment, including fire safety and hazard mitigation materials.
  • Attend Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) open meetings as needed and summarize key outcomes.
  • Participate in internal and external committee meetings related to markets, transmission, and energy storage policy areas.
  • Contribute to drafting and preparation of materials for the Markets & Transmission Committee and associated subcommittees, as well as the Energy Storage Policy and Energy Storage Safety Committees.
  • Contribute to research on electric system reliability, extreme weather impacts on the grid, and wholesale market policy issues.
  • Help prepare written materials for legislative and regulatory filings, including testimony, comments, and briefing documents.
  • Review and revise fact sheets, reports, and other materials developed for member use.
  • Assist with administrative coordination and project tracking tasks as needed to support team operations.
