About The Position

The Marketing Specialist plays a critical role at Family Service. This position is responsible for successfully implementing fundraising and recognition events throughout the year, as well as marketing efforts and external communications for the agency, including social media, newsletters, and specific marketing campaigns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred) in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of marketing strategies, including digital marketing, social media, and email marketing.
  • Strong video creation and editing skills.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to working with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with graphic design and marketing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).
  • Proven experience in fundraising event management preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Donor Perfect or similar), and MailChimp is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leadership and program staff to develop and execute comprehensive annual marketing and communications plans aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify target audiences and develop tailored messaging and strategies to reach them effectively.
  • Monitor marketing trends (especially within the nonprofit sector) and recommend innovative approaches.
  • Participate in Development and Marketing Committee meetings.
  • Develop compelling, mission-focused content for various platforms, including website copy, blog posts, social media updates, email newsletters, brochures, annual reports, press releases, and appeal letters.
  • Gather and ethically share client success stories, volunteer experiences, and donor impact narratives through written articles, photos, and videos.
  • Ensure all content is accurate, engaging, sensitive to the populations served, and adheres to brand guidelines.
  • Manage and grow the organization's online presence, including the website (updating content, basic SEO), social media channels (content scheduling, engagement, analytics), and email marketing campaigns (list management, segmentation, automation).
  • Track, analyze, and report on digital marketing performance using tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and email platform reports. Use data to inform strategy adjustments.
  • Explore and manage digital advertising campaigns (e.g., Google Ads Grants, social media ads) as budget allows.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all internal and external communications.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with local media outlets; draft and distribute press releases and media advisories.
  • Maintain agency website to ensure timely and accurate content related to events, campaigns, and general organizational information.
  • Coordinate special events, including fundraisers and recognition events in collaboration with the Community Relations and Development Manager.
  • Support all fundraising drives, including but not limited to holiday, back to school and coat drives.
  • Collaborate closely with the development/fundraising team to create marketing materials supporting fundraising campaigns, donor appeals, and stewardship efforts.
  • Develop promotional strategies and materials for fundraising events, program awareness events, and volunteer recruitment drives.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to understand service delivery, identify marketing needs, and gather information for communications.
  • Coordinate with development staff to align marketing efforts with fundraising goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
