About The Position

Performs moderately complex marketing work. Work involves compiling and disseminating marketing information and data. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Business Administration, Communications, Drafting and Design, Marketing, or a related field preferred. Each year of experience as described below in excess of the required two years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two years full-time, wage-earning retail sales or marketing experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and dynamics of planning and design.
  • Knowledge of merchandising and customer relations techniques.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques for product promotion and manufacture.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill in public address.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
  • Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.
  • Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer relations and merchandising experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts demonstrations of Texas Correctional Industries products
  • Conducts surveys and studies to determine the effectiveness of marketing practices and the potential for new markets
  • Assists in developing, planning, and implementing promotional and merchandising strategies
  • Consults current and potential customers to assist in identifying and recommending new products, product enhancements, quality assurance procedures, and other issues regarding products and marketing strategies
  • Assists clients and agency administrators regarding the effectiveness of up-to-date packaging, quality control, transportation, and market expansion
  • Gathers and analyzes cost and production information
  • Establishes contacts to promote economic development activities
  • Assists in developing and implementing division marketing plans to complement statewide marketing goals
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
