About The Position

Essential Functions (Responsibilities) •    Draft and distribute approved news releases, media kits and statements. •    Maintain and update media contact lists and databases (journalists, bloggers, influencers). •    Coordinate interviews, press tours and media coverage opportunities.  •    Help plan and promote press conferences, exhibition openings, tours, and public events. •    Manage media logistics, invitations, and follow-up post-event.  •    Write/edit newsletters, website copy and other communications, which may include interviews with artists, historians, staff, donors, community members, etc. •    Support outreach to community groups, partners and media outlets. •    Serve as an ambassador during public and professional events.  •    Execute email campaigns, including newsletters and program promotions. •    Update website to ensure accurate, timely and engaging content aligned with museum priorities. •    Works closely with leadership of Gilcrease. Required Qualifications   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: •    Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills.  •    Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. •    Proficiency with digital tools: Microsoft Office, email marketing platforms, content management systems; experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or WordPress a plus.  •    Cross-Department Collaboration: Works closely with marketing, curatorial, education and development teams to align messaging and campaigns.  •    Ability to approach and respond to sensitive topics and a variety of audiences with care and respect. Equivalent Education and Experience: •    Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or related field.  •    At least three years of experience in public information, media relations or communications; museum, nonprofit or cultural sector experience preferred. Special Job Dimensions •    On-Site & Off-Site Work: Collaborate in person daily with communications, marketing, curatorial and education teams; requires occasional travel. •    Flexible Schedule: Must be available for occasional evenings and weekends to cover Gilcrease events, exhibitions and programs. •    High Responsiveness: Ability to monitor and respond to news media inquiries outside standard business hours when necessary.  •    Public-Facing Role: May be asked to represent Gilcrease in person at events or programs. Physical Requirements •    Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings. •    Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing and handling printed materials. •    Visual acuity for reviewing digital and printed content. •    Occasional lifting and carrying of promotional materials, event signage or equipment (typically up to 20 pounds). •    Ability to move throughout the museum and event spaces for media coordination and public engagement. •    Comfortable speaking in front of groups and interacting in the community.
