About The Position

Start Strong is a youth led violence prevention program at the Boston Public Health Commission. The Marketing Intern will support the program’s communications and outreach efforts, helping to increase visibility, engagement, and impact across Boston communities—especially among youth audiences.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the role of public health in addressing racism, the social determinants of health, and inequities in health outcomes as well as strategies to advance racial justice and health equity.
  • Commitment to health equity and racial/social justice issues.
  • Strong written and visual communication skills, with experience using social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok) and a demonstrated interest in creative storytelling or content creation.
  • Strong videography and video editing experience with free or low cost softwares.
  • Ability to collaborate respectfully with diverse youth and adult staff, showing cultural humility and a commitment to BPHC’s anti-racism and health equity values.
  • Interest in public health, youth leadership, or social justice, with a willingness to learn about healthy relationships, community engagement, and anti-oppressive media practices.

Responsibilities

  • Works to help BPHC advance as an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by the BPHC Anti-Racism Policy.
  • Develop Inclusive and Culturally Responsive Communications Create flyers, presentations, and outreach materials that are youth-centered, accessible, and culturally relevant—supporting BPHC’s commitment to dismantling racism by amplifying diverse voices and ensuring messaging reflects the lived experiences of Boston’s communities.
  • Support Community-Rooted Marketing Campaigns Collaborate with staff and youth leaders to design and execute marketing strategies for events, video/film, and public awareness campaigns that promote health equity, safe relationships, and anti-oppression values.
  • Elevate Youth Voice through Storytelling and Digital Media Help generate compelling content-including social media posts, videos/documentaries, and podcasts, that positions young people as change makers and aligns with BPHC’s anti-racist mission to challenge dominant narratives and center marginalized perspectives.
