About The Position

The Marketing and Sales Director at NYU Press is responsible for directing the development and implementation of both short- and long-term marketing and sales strategies to enhance the intellectual and financial viability of NYU Press and its brand identity. This role involves supervising a team of five full-time staff and managing various marketing and sales programs, including advertising, publicity, and online marketing. The director will also oversee sales forecasts, manage third-party sales teams, and contribute to the press's electronic publishing strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in directing and managing marketing and/or sales operations in book publishing.
  • Additional senior-level experience in business/financial operations, fulfillment, licensing, and staff management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in university press, commercial academic, or nonfiction trade publishing.
  • Knowledge of book metadata driven publishing workflows.
  • Experience with open access publishing.
  • Knowledge of e-publishing technologies and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the development and implementation of publication, sales, and marketing strategies.
  • Supervise five full-time staff in marketing and sales programs.
  • Develop and oversee seasonal and annual sales forecasts and budgets.
  • Manage domestic and international sales through third-party teams and agents.
  • Oversee marketing and sales programs for the partner press distribution program.
  • Supervise translation rights program via third-party agents.
  • Contribute to the press's electronic publishing strategy.
