About The Position

The Marketing & Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Communication and Brand Strategy and plays a key role in supporting the organization’s marketing, storytelling, and audience engagement efforts. This position is responsible for creating, managing, and publishing content across multiple platforms, including social media, email marketing, website, and print and digital campaigns, to increase awareness, engagement, volunteerism, and support for Meals on Wheels Central Texas. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and content creator who can combine creative storytelling, social media management, and marketing campaign support to connect with audiences of all ages through compelling stories and strategic marketing.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in marketing, communications, social media management, or related field.
  • Experience managing social media accounts for an organization or brand, including content creation, publishing, and engagement.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to create compelling content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience writing and producing content for digital platforms, newsletters, websites, or marketing campaigns.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as Emma, Mailchimp, or similar.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to conduct interviews with neighbors, volunteers, donors, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter who is creative, proactive, and driven by results.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, confidentiality and professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field preferred, but not required. Equivalent work experience is valued.
  • Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Experience with Google Analytics (GA4) or other analytics tools preferred.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization preferred but not required.
  • Passion for the mission and values of Meals on Wheels Central Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Create, write, edit, and publish engaging content across multiple platforms, including social media, email newsletters, website, blog, and marketing campaigns.
  • Manage day-to-day social media activities, including content creation, scheduling, posting, and monitoring engagement to help grow awareness and connection with our community.
  • Conduct interviews with neighbors, volunteers, donors, and staff to develop compelling stories that highlight the impact of our mission.
  • Support the development and execution of marketing, fundraising, and engagement campaigns through thoughtful communications and content.
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of email communications, including monthly e-newsletters and campaign emails, using Emma or similar platforms.
  • Help maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with brand standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support organizational communications needs and ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador for Meals on Wheels Central Texas, helping ensure all communications reflect our voice, mission, and values.
  • All employees must contribute to meal delivery, meal management, or office support based on their scheduled hours.
  • Full-time employees: Complete 8 shifts per year
